tis the season

On the eve of a new year, I would like to take a moment to share my blessings with you.

Some may think that odd, that I feel blessed considering the crazy ride we have been on but there is a lot for which I am grateful.

And here it is:

I am married to a who has the ability to drive me crazy on one side and soothe my soul with a hug on the other. He also gave me a really really interesting life to share.

He is my strong-willed intelligent mate. He bravely faced a medical situation that could have knocked many to their knees. Throughout, he continued to strive for normalcy.

He helps me,  a language teacher, find the word on the tip of my tongue though he had a part of his brain removed that helps him with language.

He still challenges himself though on occasion he needs a push in the right direction.

Together we made two beautiful babies who happened to have grown into people I am amazingly proud of. They can be playful but also seriously try to build their own life.

We are blessed to all be back under the same roof so they could have the memory of their home in quieter, less stressful times. Our oldest gets to be back home for a short while after being in residence for university. She finally gets to be in a house not visited regularly by ambulance technicians. I am grateful she got to experience a bit of the peace and silliness since the last years she was home were so different and difficult.

I am happy that we have a home to call our own (and the bank’s until we finish paying the mortgage).

I am glad we had the strength to fight when things were hitting the fan, though there were moments when I do not understand where we got the energy or how we did it.

I am happy we had the ability to get and use the information we needed to give my husband his voice back when he lost it.

I am grateful that we could give back to our parents and be there for them as much as possible as their needs augment.

I am shocked to learn what we could accomplish. I am even more shocked at learning who I am and what I am capable of.

I am thrilled to be able to share our story of landing on our feet despite our crazy ride in hopes that it makes someone else feel what can possible.

It is a lot of work but the richness of our lives is the most unexpected gift of all.

May you savour a growing list of blessings throughout the new year…

Please join us next week for New This Year.

I would love to hear from you if you wish to leave a comment or start a conversation.

Feel free to share this entry or the blog in hopes it lands on someone’s desk who may be feeling alone on their own crazy ride through a medical situation.
